  The addition of WorldView-2 to the existing DigitalGlobe constellation of QuickBird and WorldView-1 brings the total daily rate of area collect to nearly 2 million square kilometers, equivalent to several countries entirely mapped each and every day. This dramatic increase of up-to-the moment imagery provides governments with the most relevant and up-to-date source for critical areas: borders, ports, active military fields of operations, political hotspots, and key infrastructure.

  WorldView-2 is the only high-resolution satellite with 8 multispectral bands. Most commercial satellites operate with 4-band multispectral capabilities. The additional bands (coastal blue, yellow, red edge, near IR2) heighten the level of detail and analysis derived from each image pixel. Expert government analysts will be able to identify broader ranges of classification, (e.g. more varieties of vegetation or water penetrated objects), extraction of more features (e.g. cotton based camouflage from natural ground-cover), truer representation of colors which match to natural human vision, and identify and track coastal changes and infractions. WorldView-2 will advance satellite imagery’s contribution to government intelligence in new ways and will improve the confidence level in the earth’s interpretation from satellite imagery.
